I guess I'll put this behind a cut?

Chris and Jesse drove the entire trip, and for that I thank them. This is us leaving Montgomery on our way across the states. It takes forever to get across Alabama.

SXSW Thursday

Mar. 20th, 2009 | 03:01 pm
location: hotel
music: muzak

I wanted to write a blog when I got in last night but that didn't work out.  It's a funny story, remind me to tell it sometime!  At any rate, we walked downtown again last night and ended up hanging out with some folks and going to some shows.  At one point we ended up in Oliver Peck's mobile tattoo parlor which was pretty cool.  I'm not really sure who he is but apparently he used to be married to Kat Von D. I broke away from the guys to see Brooke Waggoner at a place called Maggie Mae's, and stayed after to see a pretty cool band called Paper Route.  We tried to sneak into a PureVolume party with a couple of the Death in the Park guys but we ended up going a different way.  We're about to go downtown again, I'll write more later!

Official SXSW Day 1 - A. Armada, Maserati, Kevin Devine

Mar. 19th, 2009 | 03:08 am
location: university rodeway inn
mood: sxsw sxsw
music: silence!

Day 3 of our trip, Day 1 of SXSW!  It was another crazy wacky day.  It started with a 2 mile walk to Ruby's BBQ for a sandwich and a 2 mile walk back to the hotel with a short layover at a coffee shop with cute girls.  Cute girls are in abundance in Austin if you didn't know.  The boys went off in the afternoon to take new promo photos so I stayed at the room and caught up on social networking and digg.  My new Eee PC has a built-in camera and microphone so I tried to record a YouTube video but couldn't git er done.  Later we all walked downtown to get registered for sxsw and check out some shows.  This ended up being another 2 mile walk through mixed terrain which is pretty insane.  I missed A Armada by several hours, and could've seen Kevin Devine but the line was crazy long, so I ended up joining Jeremy and the A Armada guys at Soho Lounge to drink some beers and watch the amazing Maserati.  Pure awesome.  I ended up alone at the end of the night when all of my rides fell through, so I ended up having to walk the 2 miles back to the hotel alone at 2am.  I thought this would be horrible but it was actually quite nice, and in fact I ran into Dustin and Dustin from my band next to I-35 about halfway back to the hotel so all was well.  Now it's 3:30am and tomorrow is another fucking day!

End Sounds Pre-SXSW Label Showcase

Mar. 18th, 2009 | 10:54 am
location: austin, tx
music: traffic

So we arrived at the venue to load in our equipment and the first person I see is Mike Herrera of MxPx.  Awesome guy!  His band Tumbledown is also on our label End Sounds so we was playing the label showcase with us.  Yeah!  Also on the bill were other End Sounds acts, Death in the Park (Hot Rod Circuit), True Widow, The Ramonahs (Cross-dressing Ramones, featuring Oliver Peck), Filler (one time only Minor Threat cover band featuring Zach Blair), and a few others I can't remember right now.  Unfortunately since we played first there weren't too many folks there to watch us.  But, we still rocked it and got to hang out and drink the rest of the night.  All of the bands ended up using my drumkit which was neat, except that we had to stay the whole night so I could get it back. The real sxsw shows start tonight!  Hopefully we'll get our wristbands and such and I can get into some of these shows. We play again on Friday.

Day 1 of the trip and day 2 have officially run together!  It's 9am, I think we're about to go to sleep.  Load-in for the show is at 5:00pm.  I have a few pictures from the road but I won't be able to post them until I get back.  We had a pretty awkward continental breakfast with Death in the Park, and that's about all I have to report from Austin, TX thus far.  lol.  Giant Texas-shaped waffles!

Follow me on Twitter for live updates if you feel like it.  I post a lot.  I'm hollygorock on Twitter.

It all makes sense now! I've been thinking about it a lot, and I have to say it all came together in the past few minutes.

Any judge in his or her right mind would have let Andy Dufresne off with a slap on the wrist for digging a tunnel through the wall at Shawshank. After all, he was an innocent man who at the point of his theoretical vindication and release had served probably 20 years of a life sentence. With the new testimony from Tommy Williams, his guilty verdict would've been reversed, he would've been released from prison with a million apologies from the state, and the tunnel that he had been digging for so many years would have indeed been discovered; But I no longer think this would give a judge license to throw him back in the slammer on charges of attempting to escape.

Double Dash
Donkey Konga

I know Donkey Konga is deprecated, but I don't care!

It's as if the LiveJournal plane is heading out of town and I forgot to bring my boarding pass. For the record, this thing is trying to tell me that LiveJournal is not a word.

3. Tag 8 of your friends to do the same.

Happy Happy Meme Meme: Day #1 (Thursday 12/11/2008)
I'm going to jump on the Rock Band, umm... wagon, and say that I enjoyed playing vidja games with buddies tonight. The snoopies were extra chewy and the Google phone is fanfucking. The Kansas song is probably the best song in the game. Just a Girl is the good No Doubt song. Songz.

I tag Matt The Pike and Doug The Doug.

All of the main Mega Man 9 bosses have been conquered.  Now it's off to Dr. Wily's castle.  I started it last night but forgot that you have to finish all of Dr. Wily's levels in one sitting without saving.  I went through the first section and thought, "Hey!  I'll save and go back to the title screen so I can visit the store and buy some more energy boxes!  Yeah!"  Oops, back to the start.  I reckon I'll start it over tonight.

The Republican Party

Oct. 9th, 2008 | 02:26 pm

I originally wrote this back in February, but it never got posted for some reason.  Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Republican party.

Our Christian God loves America.
We want to kill those brown people who worship another, browner god.
The rest of the brown people need to build a Starbucks so they can emulate Freedom's economy.
The terrorists win if the Starbucks is not built.
Less government spending, unless it's for killing brown people, then spend away.
We're certaintly not going to spend money to help our own citizens.
With the money we save, we can give tax breaks to the ultra-rich.
Fuck the environment, we don't like it. Science is stupid.
Stem-cell research? No. Because life, and God, and the Bible. And science is stupid.
The Gays? Hell no, not in MY country. I don't take kindly to buttsecks.
Oh, and let's go ahead and get rid of anything brown here in America. Then we'll build a giant fence and make America more white.
Abortion? No, we're closing those clinics. You'll have to use bleach and a wire hanger like everyone else.
Guns? Fuck yeah! You can get a million guns, no questions asked. We don't care what you do with them, as long as you love our lord Jesus Christ.
Oh yeah, two words. Patriot Act.

I'm digging the Philips GoGear again!  I loaded it up with some podcasts this morning and hit the road.  I also rocked some stoptherev.  It sounds good with the cassette adapter in the Murano.
